One was a beast on the field when he was here and one is a freak on the field now. A lot of people are comparing Mark Ingram's 2009 Heisman run to the season Trent Richardson is having this year. The numbers are nearly similar but I don't think there is any comparison. Let's take a look at Mark's numbers from '09. He had 905 total rushing yards through seven games averaging a little over 129 yards per game. He averaged 6.7 yards per touch. Trent has 912 yards so far averaging 130.29 per game and 6.9 per touch. Mark Ingram had 17 rushing TD's all year in 2009. Trent Richardson has 15 through seven games. Keep in mind that this year, Richardson has only had one game in which he was held under 100 yards. In 2009, Ingram had 3 in which he was held under 100 in the first 7 games. Richardson has been consistent every single game since his less than mediocre performance against Kent State on opening day. When he gets in open field against the secondary, he uses his feet to make moves that running backs his size can't make. Mark Ingram was a great runner, don't get me wrong, but he was a bull back that could run and run over defenders in he process. Richardson does the same, the only difference is he knows when to use his feet to make the defenders look foolish. He may not win the Heisman this year because the competition in that race is outstanding, but he is well beyond the season that Ingram had in '09 already. He is bigger, faster, and reads the defensive schemes better than Ingram.

McCarron isn't McElroy.......

And not one single person should expect him to be. I have heard Bama "fans" ranting about McCarron not being as good as McElroy. Personally, I'm tired of hearing it. I'm sure the ones saying it will surely sing praises of McCarron if Bama wins the BCS title game this year. McCarron, I believe, is showing great composure on the field. He's made a few bad decisions. So did McElroy. After 5 games in 2009, McElroy was 78 of 119 passing. This year after 5, McCarron is 75 of 120. McElroy had 1,086 yards with 9 TD's and 1 INT's. McCarron is at 919 yards with 4 TD's and 2 INT's. Some people don't like the numbers. They sat the numbers don't mean anything. McCarron has had 8 passes that I have seen hit recievers in the hands or numbers, make that 9, that were not caught. McCarron may not be the verbal leader that McElroy was, and may never be, but at the end of the season, he's a better quarterback.

Bryant-Denny under the lights......

Just a visual from the 2011 season. I thought for one moment Vandy was real this season. Starting 3-0, beating a tough Connecticut team, they looked good. Then they played South Carolina poorly. Then South Carolina lost to less than mediocre Auburn last week. Poor Vandy. Coming to Bryant-Denny to face what should be the #1 ranked Crimson Tide. I've heard two questions asked. Will Vandy score on Bama? Will Vandy take a snap in Alabama territory? I'll answer both.

The answer is NO!!!!! An offense that is averaging 258 yards per game, only completes 57.3 percent of their passes, and is only averaging around 133 yards per game on the ground, They will be lucky to have 150 total yards against the Bama D. A defense that's giving up 3.06 yards per play and only 1.49 yards on the ground. A defense that's only given up 5 TD's in 5 games. If Vandy gets in Alabama territory, it's because our special teams unit lays down.

Week 5 AP and coaches poll..........

is about as screwed up as chocolate cheese. Why LSU is ranked #1 in both polls and Bama is #2? Let's see, LSU beat Oregon. An Oregon team that couldn't handle Auburn in the BCS title game this past January. An outmatched Oregon team. The LSU defensive front outweighed the Oregon offensive line by an average of 50 lbs per player. Vice versa on the offense. Power murders speed everytime. So that's one game that doesn't matter. They beat Northwestern in Baton Rouge. What did you expect? That's 2 that doesn't matter. They beat Mississippi State in Starkville. They only put 19 on the board. 19 against the #46 defense in the country. They then traveled to West Virginia and beat West Virginia. And this past week they beat Kentucky, the SEC's red headed step child.

Now on to Alabama. Week one they warmed up against Kent State. Week two they traveled to Happy Valley. They gracefully beat the Penn State Nittany Lions with class and composure. Week three they thrashed North Texas 41 to 0. Week four, the SEC opener. Arkansas, who was at the time the best offense in the SEC. They only gave up 17 yards on the ground in the 38 to 14 win. Week five, the Tide marches into the Swamp to battle the unbeaten Florida Gators. The Gators have the new #1 SEC offense since Arkansas was beaten in week four by Bama. The hype about them stopping Rainey and Demps rained through TV and radio all week. Well, Bama gave up 222 yards and only 15 on the ground averaging a half a yard per carry. Rainey and Demps rushed for a combined 8 yards. Sounds like Rainey and Demps didn't live up to the hype.
Five games each, five games won, LSU has 1 that really matters, Bama has 3 that matter.
Now let's talk numbers. Lets start with the offense. Bama total yardage is 2,190. LSU total yardage is 1,748. Bama passing; 88 of 142 for 1,041 yards. LSU passing; 72 of 119 for 885 yards. Rushing for Bama is 1,149 yards in 191 attempts for an average of 6 yards per rush. LSU rushing is at 863 yards in 218 attempts for an average of 4 yards per attempt. Bama averages 6.6 yards per play while LSU only averages 5.2 per play.
Now let's talk defense. Bama has only given up 958 total yards for an average of 3.06 yards per play and a game average of 191.6 yards. LSU has given up 1,311 yards for an average of 3.77 yards per play and an average of 262.22 yards per game. Rushing defense, Bama only gives 1.49 yards per rush and 39.6 per game while LSU is giving up 2.01 per rush and 60.4 per game. Bama's pass D is ranked 5th in the nation, LSU's is ranked 39th. Bama's D has only given up 8.4 points per game while LSU has given up 12.8.
So, somebody please tell me why LSU deserves to be #1 in the rankings. I guess when LSU loses on Nov. 5th, everyone voting will pull their heads from their sphincters. Until then, Roll Tide.

You asked for it........

Well, everyone asked for it.
